Kansas Is Still Trying to Cook Us

Apparently, Kansas has decided that 100 degrees wasn't enough.

The extreme heat is sticking around through Wednesday, with afternoon temperatures expected to hit 100–105°F across much of the state.

In Wichita, we're looking at 103°F Monday, 104°F Tuesday and 104°F Wednesday.

Because apparently the sun has a personal issue with us.

South winds will gust up to 30 mph Monday afternoon, which sounds like it might help until you remember that Kansas wind in August is basically someone pointing a hair dryer at your face.

The heat will remain mostly dry through Wednesday, with cooler temperatures finally arriving later in the week. Storm chances are also expected to return, particularly across western and northern Kansas.

For Wichita, temperatures should finally retreat to around 100°F Thursday, 96°F Friday and the low 90s by the weekend.

So, good news: by Saturday, 93 degrees is going to feel like fall.

The Unofficial Take

There are certain Kansas temperatures where you stop asking whether you should go outside and start wondering whether going outside is even legally advisable.

This is one of those weeks.

At 104 degrees, your car isn't transportation anymore. It's an oven with cup holders.

Your steering wheel will become a branding iron. Your seatbelt buckle will become a weapon.

Seriously, though, this kind of heat can become dangerous quickly. Take breaks from the heat, drink plenty of water, and don't underestimate how quickly heat exhaustion can set in.

And if you absolutely have to spend time outside this week?

Well, congratulations. You're tougher than us.

We'll be inside, watching the weather forecast and celebrating the arrival of 93 degrees like it's a snow day.
